KDDIと仏Total Immersionは9月9日、AR（拡張現実）を活用したコンテンツ事業において業務提携すると発表した。KDDIはTotal Immersionの第三者割当増資に応じ、約1億円を投じる。

　KDDIはTotal Immersionが持つ画像認識エンジン「D'fusion」のマーカーレストラッキング技術を活用し、読み取りセンサーを使わずに画像を直接読み取ることで、認識速度や安定性に優れたARコンテンツの提供を目指す。Total Immersionは、さまざまなARコンテンツを提供するKDDIとの資本提携により、アジアにおけるさらなる事業拡大を目指すとしている。

　KDDIは事業展開の第1弾として、共同でARコンテンツ事業を推進してきた頓智ドットへD'fusionの技術を提供しARコンテンツを提供していく。また、Total Immersionとの新たな事業展開については12月頃に別途発表するとしている。

KDDI invests JPY 100 mln in Total Immersion - report

Japanese mobile operator KDDI has invested roughly JPY 100 million to take an equity stake in the French software provider Total Immersion, reports Nikkei. The details have not been made public about the French firm's third-party allotment of shares to raise capital, but it appears that KDDI has acquired an interest of at most 15 percent in Total Immersion. In making the investment, KDDI is laying the groundwork for providing augmented-reality services to smartphone subscribers using its au wireless service. Total Immersion has image-recognition technologies for identifying the features of landscapes and objects captured with camera phones and then delivering content that superimposes what was captured on screen with related text and video. KDDI plans to utilise these augmented-reality technologies for content delivery services starting in December. The company will market the services as sales-promotion tools to businesses but also anticipates applications in education, tourism and entertainment.
