Bing、Robotvision経由でiPhoneでARデビュー

画像認識技術をもつBingが今度はARに進出した。ARのキモは高度な画像認識技術であるため、なるほどという展開だ。

『Bingが、同サービスのAPI上に構築されたアプリを通じて、iPhoneへ進出しはじめた。App Storeに加わったのは、拡張現実（AR）アプリのRobotvision（iTunesリンク）だ。他のARアプリと同じく、iPhone 3GSのビデオカメラとGPSとコンパスを使って、近所のレストランや店の情報やレビューを表示する。このアプリの地域店舗情報は、Microsoftの検索エンジンであるBingから取得している。Robotvisionは、近所でのTwitterのつぶやきや、ジオタグ付きのFlickrの写真も表示する。しかし私には、これがARアプリでどう役に立つのかわからない。基本的にこの手のアプリは、目の前やそこの角を曲がったところの情報を見つけるためのものだ。』
